September 2014: 13th Annual Wild Mushroom Festival-Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center
September is a prime time for mushrooms in Connecticut. This event shows off the talent in our community while supporting DPNC programs. Restaurants prepare mushroom dishes on-site to sample. Educational activities will be available during the festival, and include mushroom identification hikes, and talks by guest lecturers.
It was a wonderful warm, sunny afternoon to be outdoors with the hundreds of mushroom enthusiasts that came to the DPNC to partake in nature and great food. Harbour House served a porcini dusted Stonington scallop with a white truffle cream sauce and chanterelle mushrooms. We had multiple participants come back for seconds, thirds and fourths!! You may see this small bite turned into an appetizer special on the menu in the near future.
